There is a very big lie going around in the chiropractic profession at the moment and I just had to point it out before other chiropractors get suckered into falling for it. Believing this lie could potentially be the death of your practice, as communication and networking continues to evolve.

Just recently, I was reading a major chiropractic journal and saw that a chiropractic marketing group decided to tell all chiropractors that social media marketing and internet marketing are a “bust” in 2009. Really, I thought? Is this possible that they could make such a whopping falsehood in a big publication? I looked closer just to make sure that it wasnt some sort of joke, and sure enough, it was no joke.

So clearly, this particular chiropractic consulting firm made this claim in the publication to draw attention to their marketing methods, and the costly price of utilizing their services. These people even went as far as to say that the internet isnt being used as much for searches in 2009, and that the golden days of social media marketing have come and gone. They probably got the attention that they were after, but the price they paid was to use an untruth.

Frankly, those ridiculous claims make this consulting group look foolish and outdated! Only an unqualified “expert” would say that the internet and social media are dead. I mean, look at how Barack Obama won the presidency by a landslide. His closest campaign advisers credited the viral aspects of social networking, video marketing, and other types of social media for his astonishing rise so fast. I could literally list hundreds of examples here.

If chiropractors across America knew how much more freedom and flexibility that Web 2.0 and social media marketing would allow them, then theyd all be jumping aboard. You cant be responsible for every aspect of your practice, because youre a specialized expert, but you can devote as little as a half hour a day to social media marketing, and quickly and powerfully brand your practice in your community, driving many new patients through your doors each month.

This kind of magic doesnt happen overnight, however. My practice took a fair amount of time, effort, and experimentation to get the online marketing to do its magic for me. Posting one video on YouTube isnt going to transform your bottom line overnight, but consistent effort will create the viral marketing power that youre looking for. A virus is something that keeps spreading and spreading, and thats exactly whats going to happen online with social media marketing. No marketing group is going to tell you that, because theyd rather take all your money and continue with their tried and true one size fits all methods of marketing.

Wheres a great place to start when faced with the immense volume of traffic online? Video marketing is in my opinion the most powerful use of social media sites, and was the knockout marketing technique of 2008, showing even greater growth in 2009. When your name, face, and voice are put out into the world, people are going to see the personal side of your practice, and theyll feel as though they know you. This is marketing gold these days.

In todays modern and crazy world, its when potential patients can experience your authenticity that they will then want to come through your practice doors. The way that I see chiropractors make the same mistake again and again is in the presentation of themselves on video. You have to act natural, because people can sense phoniness with incredible stealth. If you can show who you really are, people are going to trust you and turn to your practice in their time of need.
